Deer Fence Kits
All of our posts are round black coated steel posts with matching black caps and galvanized post sleeve inserts. All of our fence kits can be used as removable (rolled up for seasonal protection) or permanent. We don't offer posts such as T-Posts or angle steel posts which are designed to be stuck in the ground without support. Over time, especially when the ground freezes and then thaws, those post types will not continue to be level and can tilt one way or another. These post types are also not very sturdy for deer and wildlife exclusion. They are flat or rectangular and can be bent forward or back. Round posts distribute post strength evenly across their circumference. From our experience, we've put together the most affordable and effective kits available. A good amount of our customers are referred to us by neighbors and friends; It's important to us that each customer will not only have a fence that works but one that looks good out in the yard.
Click to enlargeThese fence kits are suitable for excluding deer and other wildlife from an entire area, creating a strong perimeter fence. This includes backyard areas (typical installations would start at the house, go into the backyard and return to the house for example), areas around an house (the entire perimeter is enclosed to the property line with a gate across the driveway), farms, vineyards, arboretums and similar applications. The deer fence posts included in these kits are heavy wall steel posts necessary for withstanding pressure from deer and other larger types of wildlife along a perimeter. This includes areas with heavy deer populations or areas with established deer paths.
These kits are designed to utilize some of the fence mesh (6") to create a flap bent to the outside and staked to the ground. This deters animals from being able to push up under the fence. Over time vegetation sediment will collect at the base of the fence to help secure it. After a year or two the fence will effectively bury itself. Some fence kits have a metal skirt which overlaps the base of the poly fence. This acts as a barrier against smaller animals with sharp teeth like groundhogs and woodchucks which can chew holes in the poly fence.
Some necessary tools include sharp snips to cut through the fence mesh, a small sledge hammer to drive in post sleeves and a level. Post sleeves are great because they 1) create both removable and permanent enclosures 2) save labor time and resources by not having to use concrete and 3) work well in all climates and soil types.
We suggest using a small magnetic level which is used to level the post sleeves and also the deer fence posts. You can attach it right to the sleeve as you drive it in to make sure it's level.
Note: If the fence kit contains posts that are 7.5ft (for example) that is the finished height of the post above ground; the posts are longer than 7.5' because they go into the ground sleeves and into the ground. We publish the finished height so customers know how high the fence will be after installation.

Corner and end bracing for the above fence kits. Although not usually necessary some customers prefer to have reinforced corners (if building a square or rectangle) or ends if terminating your fence at a house or barn, for example. A corner consists of one 2.5" corner post with two diagonal 1.58 support braces. An end consists of one 2.5" corner post with one diagonal 1.58 support brace. Included are hardware and instructions. Corner posts are designed to be put in the ground with concrete. All corners and ends are shipped 8' finished height (above ground once installed); if you need bracing for a shorter fence simply bury more of the corner/end post or cut off the excess.
